Hello everyone! We apologize for the delay in posting an update. Life has been busy! Spencer continues to perform every Sunday, along with many Fridays and Saturdays, at Georgetown Piano Bar. Coming up, Spencer is looking forward to the Somos Amigos fundraiser on June 9th, Mater Dei's end of school year events, and his Georgetown University summer performances. Spencer will pick back up with monthly virtual shows in June, following a well-earned vacation in March.

It has been a long time since we provided an update! This is mostly because things have been busy and steady. Spencer continues to perform many Fridays and Saturdays, and every Sunday, at Georgetown Piano Bar, with virtual concerts on weekend nights a few times a month and Tarbender's generally once a month. He had a busy summer with special events like weddings, and of course, his Georgetown University performances. Spencer is planning some upcoming events at country clubs and other unique venues as well. We hope to see many of you at a show soon!

It is tough to believe it has been four years since our last update! Prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic, Spencer continued to perform nightly at solo and dueling piano bars throughout the country, with his long-time home base in Georgetown, DC. During the height of the pandemic, Spencer performed virtual concerts several times each month, and performed virtually for many private events. Over the past few months, Spencer has resumed performing live 1-2 nights per week. Most weekends, he can be found back at Georgetown Piano Bar for dueling pianos. Along with booking a number of private events, Spencer has enjoyed performing and presenting at Georgetown University this summer. Virtual concerts have allowed Spencer's fans across the world to tune in, so he plans to continue these concerts 2-3 times per month, as well.

Spencer is excited for his first performance at Normandie Farm Restaurant's Margery's Lounge tonight at 7pm. He will be there again on October 27. Spencer is also looking to performing many Thursday and Friday nights at Seasons 52 in Columbia, MD beginning November. He also continues to perform at Georgetown Piano Bar every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and first, second, and fifth Wednesday of the month, at dueling piano venues across the country, and at local country clubs and private events.

Spencer wants to thank his fans, friends, and colleagues for a wonderful 5 1/2 years at Seasons 52 in North Bethesda and Tysons Corner. The company is re-branding and will no longer have piano bars in these locations, but Spencer will have some dates coming up at their Columbia, MD location. Spencer continues to perform at Georgetown Piano Bar every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday,as well as every 1st, 2nd, and 5th Wednesday of each month. He also performs regularly at local country clubs, and dueling piano venues across the country. Spencer is looking forward to a fall and winter full of holiday parties and wedding celebrations as well.

Join Spencer bates for an all request sing-a-long piano bar at Georgetown Piano Bar every Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and every 1st, 2nd, and 5th Wednesday. The show now begins at 7pm each night.. Spencer also performs at Seasons 52 North Bethesda most Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Be sure to check his calendar though - he has monthly performances at Chevy Chase Club and Manor Country Club, as well as special events and weekends/nights at dueling piano venues that impact his typical schedule. Look for him some Wednesdays at Seasons 52 in either North Bethesda or Tysons Corner as well.

Exciting news! Spencer is moving his M Street sing-a-long piano bar show to a brand new Georgetown venue, Georgetown Piano Bar. Many of Spencer's colleagues from Mr. Smith's will also be at Georgetown Piano Bar, so please come by for a visit soon. Spencer is currently scheduled to perform on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesdays nights, as well as on every 1st, 2nd, and 5th Wednesday of each month, beginning in November. Before then, he is scheduled on September 10, 15, 17, 29, and October 8, 13, 27, and 29.

After an 11 year, 3 to 4 night a week run, Spencer Bates said goodbye to Mr. Smith's of Georgetown with a phenomenal sing-a-long show last night, before the venue closed their doors on M Street. Join us at Parker's Bistro in Bethesda, MD on Sunday, March 10 from 1-3 PM, for a Hope For Children US fundraiser.Spencer will showcase a combination of all original music and cover songs, while patrons enjoy brunch, lunch, drinks, and afternoon snacks. A percentage of Parker's sales during that time will be donated to Hope For Children US. The charity's suggested donation for patrons is an additional $15.

Spencer continues to perform every Sunday-Tuesday at Mr. Smith's of Georgetown. He will also be performing many Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, at Seasons 52 in North Bethesda, MD. Spencer also looks forward to traveling to duleing piano venues across the country, and to performing at private and country club events, throughout the spring. In April, Spencer will be performing for a weekend in Rehoboth Beach, DE, a beloved getaway spot! Spencer will perofrm at Rigby's Bar & Grill on Fri & Sat Apr 12 & 13. He hopes that, in addition to the Rehoboth locals, DC and Baltimore fans will enjoy a weekend visit to see him at this fun piano bar venue.

Tickets are on sale now for Spencer's 7:30pm, July 28 performance at the lovely Historic Rosemont Manor in Berryville, VA. A portion of proceeds will benefit Healthy Families Northern Shenandoah Valley. This unique show will combine sing-a-long, dance-a-long cover songs, and concert style original music. The ticket price ($25 + tax) includes a wine and cheese reception at intermission. At Bobby McKey's Spencer will showcase his repertoire of over 1500 cover songs, spanning every genre. Spencer will be performing his original songs at other upcoming shows. To benefit the Myanmar Cyclone victims, Spencer will be broadcasting live twice in the next week! On Thursday, May 15 tune in at 11 AM ET (or anytime thereafter) to Worldspace Satellite Radio (www.worldspace.com) or XM Satellite Radio (www.xmradio.com) to listen to Spencer's radio interview and performance with host Ted Kelly. Then, on Sunday, May 18, Spencer will participate in the “Music for Myanmar” concert, which begins at 6 PM ET. UPop 29, the global pop music channel, will broadcast live via XM Satellite Radio worldwide via WorldSpace Satellite Radio, XM Radio Online, and DirecTV music channel 824. Event hosts are Ted Kelly, Dee Dee Grucelski, & Zoltar of XM and WorldSpace, along with Rob Timm of WRNR Radio. The show will feature seven hours of acoustic and full band performances. If you are in the DC area, please come out to the Rock & Roll Hotel (1353 H Street NE in Washington D.C) between 6 PM and 1 AM. Tickets are $15 and all proceeds will benefit the cyclone victims. Other upcoming performances include George Mason University's Tuesday Jams on April 29th, Focus Alexandria on May 18th, The 2008 Takoma Park Folk Festival on September 14th, and a return to Elaine's Piano Bar in Asheville, NC in late May. Presently, Spencer is performing at many private events. Highlights include Lockheed Martin's Charities of Choice Campaign, Hotel Washington's New Year's Eve Celebration, and a wedding at the Italian Embassy. On Friday January 25, Spencer is performing at the Songwriters' Association of Washington's Bethesda SAW Oneness Showcase. This performance is a follow-up to Spencer's win at this year's Takoma Park Folk Festival. Spencer will be performing all original songs at the event. He will perform in the final spot of the evening. In addition to his regular Mr. Smith's of Georgetown gig every Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday night, Spencer is now performing on Saturday nights at Jay's on Read, a piano bar in Baltimore. Other upcoming performances include George Mason University's Tuesday Jams on April 29th, George Mason's Live at Damon's, Focus Alexandria on May 18th, The 2008 Takoma Park Folk Festival on September 14th, and a return to the local Greene Turtle chain for dueling piano shows. Presently, Spencer is performing at many private events. Highlights include recent holiday parties, Lockheed Martin's Charities of Choice Campaign, Hotel Washington's New Year's Eve Celebration, and a wedding at the Italian Embassy. Spencer has decided to move on from his regular booking at Howl at the Moon Baltimore. While this was a difficult decision for Spencer, he wanted to free up time to pursue his own music projects further, and to broaden his experiences with other gigs. He is dueling at venues across the country with colleagues from Howl at the Moon and beyond, and continues to perform solo at Mr. Smith's of Georgetown every Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday night, as well as at other nightly bookings in the DC area and throughout the United States. Spencer's performances, whether public or private, will continue to include either or both his original songs and his over 1500 covers.

On September 16, 2007 Spencer performed in the Takoma Park Folk Festival's Emerging Artist Competition. Although Spencer's music is traditionally considered pop or rock, his songwriting style allows him to cross easily into the folk genre. He was chosen as a contenstant from among many entrants, and competed against a number of other fine artists. As the 2007 competition winner, Spencer will star in a featured performance at next year's 31st Annual Takoma Park Folk Festival. For more information on the festival, visit www.tpff.org

It’s been a long time, so we’d like to update you on Spencer’s recent endeavors. As you may or may not know, Spencer released his album Goodnight Rosebud in February 2006. Songs from the album have been featured on college and independent radio stations across the country. The album has received strong reviews. Check them out on this site, or downloaded on Itunes. Please visit Spencer's MySpace page (www.myspace.com/spencerbates), and if you haven’t already, become Spencer’s friend. Spencer responds personally to all comments and messages. Presently, Spencer continues to perform nightly. You can usually find him at Mr. Smith’s of Georgetown, a DC based piano bar (Sun-Tues 9pm-1am), or at Howl at the Moon, a dueling piano bar in Baltimore’s Power Plant Live (Wed-Sat pm). Additionally, Spencer will kick off his summer afternoon performances at Bethesda’s Haagen Dazs Amphitheater on Sundays July 1 and July 15 beginning at 2:30 pm. These performances will consist primarily of original songs. They’re wonderful opportunities for fans of all ages to come out, listen, and sing along.
